If yours gets infected, removing it hurts less than the infection.
They numb you when they remove it. For the first cyst, I wasn't numbed very well, but it is still a relief to have it removed once infected.
I don't think I still have any scars from them, but the one where i was numbed the least the doctor was extra careful and it healed the fastest of the three. looking up pictures, pilonidal cysts look like they are a little bigger so you may get a small scar. idk.
I haven't tried anything in this comment, but they are options.
