I'm on Windows 10 and "system" in task manager is causing huge spikes that permanently make disk stay at 100%. There's also this repetetive noise coming from the laptop: https://voca.ro/17ZVxRUiAhxb
How screwed am I? Could anybody please tell me what the problem is?

That's weird, but i'm not kidding. I can hear it with and without headphones. I don't mean the fan sound, but that quiet and repetetive "duun dun du duuun dun" scratching or whatever it is. Describing it like that sounds stupid but I wanted to know if anybody could tell me how bad it is and whether the problem lies with the hdd itself or something

Look at the transfer rate, not the usage percentage:
- 100% usage, large amounts of data being transferred: disk is busy
- 100% usage, practically nothing being transferred: disk is fucked
Pic related is an example of "disk is fucked".

Can't hear it, but your symptoms are consistent with a dying disk.

Well fuck. I'm getting several spikes in the disk transfer rate box even though i'm not doing anything and the active time one is all green. I'm backing everything up right now. Is it worth it getting a new hdd for a laptop or should I just buy a new one
