This shit doesn't seem to work anymore. Tried MPV but it doesn't have any menu options with the program. What should I use to watch my chinese cartoons?

Sure it does, just install whatever filters it's missing, and it will play anything.

It's a frontend for Directshow (though it tries to cheat by packaging itself with some filters that live inside the .exe so nothing else gets to use them).

So it can play anything the directshow components on your system can play, and can't play anything they can't. If you install new directshow filters for a new format, all directshow players (MPC, WMP, etc.) will be able to play that format.

I can see OP is using Windows 7, which will probably be the problem.

Not all codecs can even be installed on older versions, for you simply can't install AV1 on Windows 10 LTSB. This is extremely retarded and infuriating.

You dont need a gui when you have a keyboard buttons on it.
Mpv is genuinely best option, just spend 5 minutes learning the keybinds.

I use the free NINITE updater to keep MPC-HC and the codecs up to date. MPC-HC is installed as part of the KLITE-Codecs pack via NINITE.

Just go to the Ninite site and pikc K-Lite Codecs. MPC-HC comes with that codec pack.

Doesn't fucking matter. I just want something with a mouse driven interface like any normal-ass video player. I want play, pause, seek, and volume controls that I can control with my mouse, like in VLC. Hell, I'd just use VLC if I could set it to use MPV as a backend.

MPC-HC does that and has good keyboard options too. You can even re-define keys for commands in its setup GUI. Another nice feature is the ability to repeat a certain segment of the video or audio by pressing keys. For example, press "[" to mark the beginning of a segment and "]" to mark the end point of a segment to be repeated.

MPC-HC is installed and updated if you use the K-Lite Codec pack installer.

The only time I had trouble playing a video in Haruna, it was some weird MPEG2 thing taken from someone's DVR. SMPlayer ended up working for it but its interface looks like ass.

All I wanted to know is if there was a better frontend for MPV. That's it.

It's too bad. MPC-HC (and its madVR) is built upon technologies that are only available for Windows, such as DirectShow and MFC. The two major free players of MPV and VLC are what OP is stuck with.
