what's the Best mini fanless laptop on amazon for vacations under 200 that wont get slow in 3 years like the POS Chromebook I used?
provide a link.
what do you use that works fast?

I thought you're stuffed, but where it's at with fanless laptops is Alder Lake-N (i3 N300/N305, Processor N200/N100/N97).

It's got Intel's newest GPU, so hardware decoding of EVERYTHING, including AV1, and performance is acceptable even at 6 Watts.

You're looking at roughly double your budget for a N200 laptop though. Before buying, read the service manual to confirm it actually is fanless, it might be being shipped CTDP-up, or the manufacturer might just be being lazy and not want to design a heat spreader for a low-end variation on a platform laptop.

It seems to be quite difficult because the chips are kinda vapourware and lots of things that aren't an Intel chip are called "N200".

I just hate chromebooks man. you buy 'em, they work fast for awhile, then get slow in 3 years, like I don't know what I did to mine I powerwashed wiped it like 3 times and then re signed in, Still slow.
This must be planned obsolescence or I'm paranoid.

most android/mac/windows machines are gonna get slow at some point, especially low budget ones.

It is absolutely correct.
Hardware doesn't, but the 5 big updates your OS recieves through the years get hefty on low spec hardware. Not to mention Apple were caught red-handed underclocking older processors "trying to increase battery life", rendering older devices borderline useless.
If you want your ancient calculator to run smoothly you go the Linux road or stay on an old version waiting for all software support to drop you.

Not necessarily. You can use a debloated, gutted Win10 and not update anything for quite a while.
But in my experience, especially on a budget machine, Linux runs smoother. Having the OS eat almost nothing of the limited RAM you've got is always a plus in my book with nowadays browsers and websites requiring 4 gigs of ram just to load and refresh.

anything I can do to stop and update from happening or does it happen even if you turn it off on windows?
like I turn auto update off but it always reminds me.

Probably, like >>1379783 said hardware doesn't slow down.
You should try a factory reset, see how it runs without all the shit you installed.
You should also be able to install an older version of the OS and stay with it, i guess.
I havent used Windows in years but I have it installed for dual boot just in case I ever need it. The version I installed I gutted myself, customized the installation file removing all updates, all bloatware, all telemetry pretty much everything I don't need. I'm fairly sure you should be able to do similar thing with ChromeOS.

Its gonna be a throwaway laptop with no personal info, but just want it to be fast and something I can keep for years without it turning to shit.

You don't have to, but I suggest that you give it a try.
If you do, you should disable compositing and look into zram.
Your hardware will go so much further once you get used to the differences.

from what I see most under $200 machines are rather similar, but I notice almost all of them come with windows OS pre-installed, meaning you get a legitimate windows for which you pay. if i were you i would save on the windows and maybe spend the few extra bucks on more ram or a slightly better cpu.

Nonsense, they turned off turbo when the device had actually crashed using turbo. You would only ever see this behaviour if the battery was fucked, and it automatically reset if you changed the battery.
Thinkpads do the same thing if their battery doesn't work, but apparently when it's a Thinkpad it's your fault for having a fucked battery, not the Thinkpad's fault for noticing.

What do you mean "also"? That amazon link is a second-hand thinkpad. Skylake is so old it's not on the W11 compatibility list.

It's not, but be aware:
- it's too old for W11, so if you're planning on using Windows you'll have to either deal with the W10 EOL in 2025, or force W11 onto it and hope nothing breaks later
- it is about as far removed from your original requirements of "mini fanless laptop for vacations" as it's possible to be. Thinkpad T is their "intermediately-chonky" line, and a 2015 processor will run hot compared to a 2023 processor

The main thing is you are asking a lot trying to get a good laptop for 200. That's the price you pay for a bad laptop, not a good laptop. So you may have to take what you can get, and it is absolutely worth taking your time shopping for something good.
