Whether that's his job or a hobby, that is often his primary goal. While some go for beauty first, there is no denying it: if the artist doesn't give you or your heart an erection, he is a poor artist. We also know that good artist exist. The situations, style and general setting are also a lot more attractive than those that one would find in 3D porn. Therefore it is much, much easier to "use" lolicon and shotacon pornography for its intended purpose that is getting aroused and then shooting your goo, compared to actual CP and, as it is the case with many here, even legal 3D porn. Just because the character is canon 10 years old doesn't mean you would be getting anywhere near the same experience IRL. That being said, it does not address the taboo factor.
But honestly, being called a pedo is a compliment. There no reason to be discouraged when someone calls you that. It's like someone going: "Wow bro, looking healthy! Do you work out?" Just tell them to marry a loli and inseminate her every day, then move on. You're not gonna learn anything from them.
