Unless you have exceptionally steady arms, you'll be wanting to hold the mini with your off-hand, rest your forearms on something, then rest the pinkie of your on-hand somewhere on your off-hand, so the whole mini/hands/brush system doesn't move relative to any one part. When I painted minis, I held the mini with the thumb and first two fingers of my left hand, the brush like normal, then used the two free fingers of my left hand to hold my right pinkie. This gives a good range of motion whilst still isolating the hands from any arm movement.
