What's the best anime you've watched and why? I mean the perfect 10/10 that you couldn't find any fault with.

My only criteria for this is that it isn't something everyone absolutely knows about. So Berserk, most popular shonen, Paranoia Agent, etc.

I'm thinking rarer jewels like Kaiba, Kids on the Slope, Saranzanmai, etc.

it's not an anime (yet) but Dungeon Meshi. the characters are great, the comedy is on point (past the first chapter), the worldbuilding, themes, and ideas in general are all well-executed

it's kind of weird to ask for reasons for why something is good, because the obvious answer should be "it's well made and there were few-to-no flaws." it's a lot easier to explain why something is bad, because the starting point of an story is that it makes sense and follows a logical throughline, and as it progresses it might accumulate flaws which take a toll on its overall score

I mostly wanted people to tell me why they personally found something good, on a subjective scale. Not too worried about "good execution" so long as it's something you watched that fulfilled all your personal niches.

Looks cheap even for the time, but its pacing is unmatched. Every episode flows so nicely into the following one, and there's just this feeling of constant attrition and tension to it that really hooks you in and doesn't let go. Even seemingly absurd episode premises like "The White Base is out of salt for their hamburgers" have their place once you get into the swing of it; I can only remember one episode out of its 43 that I was not in some way invested in. The characters are also very odd, and never really what they might come off as at first glance or just from their concept/role, and not always in a way does this play out in a way that's particularly overt. It's a show that generally tends to really pull the rug from under you, perhaps because it has become such a household name you come to with a lot of preconceptions. But it is by no means cliche.

I've seen a lot more higher-concept and varied mech shows since, both from around the time and more modern, and while I like those as well a lot of them tend thave a habit of losing steam and fall into these long, dull stretches at some point. The original Gundam is not at all like that (or a lot of other shows, for that matter), and really makes it stand out among them because of it. It's the show that got me back into anime when a lot of other shows and movies I was trying out weren't doing it for me. Its a prime example of one of those niches Japanese cartoons really specialize in. I don't think it's faultless, but I think it's a solid 10/10 when it comes to anime.

I very much enjoyed Akira, Black Lagoon, Perfect Blue, but I wouldn't consider any of those 10/10's. I don't know, I've just never really found an anime to rate that highly. Those are all fairly well known, so as for "rarer" anime, I guess Erased, I would give it a high 7.

I haven't really seen many anime I'd consider 10/10. My favorite is actually Cowboy Bebop, but that's too popular for your criteria

I can recc you some manga though. My favorite is Shut Hell. I enjoyed (almost) everything about it. I like history, violent stories and strong women so it was right up my alley.

Using "faultless" as a standard for a 10/10 is retarded. All you're gonna get is lukewarm replies like the rest of the thread, where people hemm and haww that their favourites can't be real 10s, rather than elaborate on why they're their favourites. A lot of times something is consistently enjoyable to the point it overrides its own limitations and flaws, which may be part of why you might like it the most.

I personally really like Irresponsible Captain Tylor and Kaiji.

For me, Tylor had me laughing for 10 seconds straight during the crescendo of episode 4 and I'll always love it for that. It has a lot of tropes I really love too such as lucky idiots, underestimated protags and turnabouts. It was just entertaining to see how this plucky crew lead by an inexperienced idiot turned into something the enemy seemingly feared.

Kaiji was just a fantastic thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you wonder how Kaiji is going to get out of the situation he's in, and the satisfaction you feel when you see him figure out something and apply it is really sweet. I'd say it also has similar tropes to with its underestimated protags and turnabouts.

Probably Berserk 1997 or OPM S1, only seen Berserk once though, so I dont remember any flaws other than when I first watched episode 1 in like 2016 dubbed when I was 14 and was super bored by it, but when I watched it in 2020 it was kvno. OPM S1 is good from start to finish, rewatched it a lot, house of evolution can get a little mid

I can find faults with every show, especially the ones that take themselves too seriously, or shows that are overhyped by people who take themselves too seriously (Like you OP, oooooooh I'm so deep I like rare gems that not everyone has heard of im so fuckin deeeeeep)
