What's the best way to store a manga archive?

I have some manga series stored as a folder containing a bunch of chapter folders, each containing image files. I want to merge them all to 1 file for easier storage management.

If I just compress it all as 1 big cbz file it works but CDisplayEx will display all of it as a single 1000 page chapter. Is it possible to merge the entire manga to 1 file but still retaining chapter navigation? Dunno if it's my compression method that is wrong or if I should be using a different book reader.

On a related note, what's the best archive format (cbz, cbr, etc)?

cbz and cbr are respectively zip and rar files. Rar is a better format, but it's not like image files compress so it's practically irrelevant

I use RAR so that I can recover from errors. The problem with ZIP files over storing each picture file separately is data loss. If a few bits go bad on a picture file, only that one file has small blip in the image. But a zip file may have two or more stored files ruined.

To recover from data loss using RAR, I use its Recovery Record feature. It does add overhead file size, but it's worth it to me especially if files are stored on CDR which might have some data bits drop over time due to infamous data rot.

Hmm, sure if you're going to make those files for yourself and never distribute them. Recovery records on shared files are useless, because even when there's data loss, random Anons won't know it's there or how to use it.
Par2 files make recovery records look completely useless with how many options they have. The only disadvantage they'd have is you can't pretend they don't exist

The answer was for OP's question as it was asked. OP didn't require that the files be passed around to other people who could not open a RAR file. The recovery record overhead is part of the RAR file, so there is still only ONE single file to distribute unlike with the PARCHIVE approach which has separate overhead files.

The advantage of separate overhead recover files from Parchive is that these can be stored elsewhere. Thus they are probably not subject to the problem that bothered the data file.
