Even if her subscribers is technically 800k+, it would appear that most are inactive since y'all struggle to get 5-10k views per video. It also seems like she's been using the same thumbnail/video formulas for like 5 years (alien caterpillar creature) even though the audience doesn't seem to care about it anymore.
If she wants to hit a million, your wife needs to find new content that she can make which people are actively interested in. Once she finds one type of content, she needs to be ready with something else in 6-9 months as her audience gets bored of one formula, and keep up with this sort of "cycling" in audience attention.
With the extreme level of inactive subs, I'm not sure if it would actually be easier to get to 1m on a new channel as opposed to this one in particular. Also, the sort of strategies that worked when she got her initial subs are very different from today's YouTube "meta", so it will definitely require some pretty major changes either way.
