Historically, samurai were real fucking bastards, yet they're often portrayed as honorable or noble. I want more depictions in media of accurate, thuglike samurai.
Pretty much all the Zatoichi films starring Shintaro Katsu fit the bill. Of the 26 films, I only recall 2, MAYBE 3 samurai who weren't bastards, and of those two one was a ronin and the other an anti-villain.
The manga Shigurui nailed this for the first three quarters, really depicting samurai as cruel thug enforcers of their despotic lord. It even depicting fucking wakashūdō. That said it jumped the shark in a really jarring way in Volume 11 with a futanari ripping a guy's face off and a midget covered in scabs so thick that he was essentially a kappa, so I dropped it.
