Ok I'm learning German and I have a German movie I'd like to watch. It's pretty unpopular so there are no german subtitles available on the net. Is there a software (or a website) (free or easy to pirate) that enables you to make subs automatically with AI like YouTube has? That'd be a life saver - I want to watch that movie but without subs I'd understand like 20% of it tops.

It will help you more to watch without subtitles. Try writing what you hear if you can't understand something. Then you can look it up later in a dictionary (https://leo.de/ zum Beispiel).

The best thing is to watch video with same language subtitles (d.h. deutsche Untertitel). If you encounter a new word, pause the video and look up immediately. Then write it down and carry on.

It's a balance, I think. Only relying on audio is the purest, but if you're missing 80% of what's being said, then it's kind of impractical. Ultimately, you're trying to learn everything, reading, vocabulary, etc, and the progress is mostly parallel.
Even if you don't need them at all, I find having subs to fall back on is great, as is looking up words on the spot.

I'm assuming OP is an adult, so I'm giving him tips based on how I learned English and German (admittedly, my German is a lot more shit now than it used to be). I'm sure different people have their own way of doing things though.

sure its better than absolutely no exposure, but it never forces you out of your comfort zone
and that is necessary, because meaning of words is better derived from context so you immediately understand the right context, instead of just repeating some transliteration

Exposure is only one part of it. Understanding is equally important. You can live in Germany for months and months, and you can listen to audio for hours and hours and not learn a single thing.

If you can understand most of what is said, no subs are needed. You miss something, you rewind, listen again and you'll probably get it. If you're only getting 20%, then subs are extremely useful (or rather, captions, cuz that's what we're talking about).

You toggle them on and off as needed, then eventually you find yourself relying on them less and less. Or you simply ignore them.

For work. I want to escape my Neetdom by aquring marketable skill (in my country programming is oversaturated as fuck so that is out of the question). Since I live in Europe, close to Germany, a lot of German firms are here and needs fluent German speakers to communicate with clients from Germany, Austria etc. I also learn French.

Your English sounds pretty good, anon. You can probably find a good job just with that.
Programming is pretty bankable too, you have work outsourced to you from all over Europe (maybe even farther).

Thanks for kind words. Yeah maybe I could find something just with English but I prefer to have something extra to be employable (I spent years at home doing nothing except self studying after college, don't ask why, so me having no work experience is weird as fuck and is probably a giant red flag for employers).
As for programming - I really wish that would be true, but since my country is, just like you said, a hub for cheap labor in Europe (although that kind of changes too, I heard India is more and more relevant for companies here), that is exactly the reason things went south: everybody and their grandma here learn coding to have a better start at life. The result? Over 1000 cvs for any junior position, incredibly hard to enter this industry without 2-3 years of experience.
Anyways, what's your reason to learn German?
