Heres my attempt.
I dup layer, made it black and white, and slowly erased all but the hair. Im sure youre more of an exper on PS, can you share how you did it?

create a color fill adjustment layer, set the color to any grayscale (from white to black and everything in between) and set the blend mode to color
invert its layer mask and then use a white hard brush on the layer mask to apply the color fill only on the hair
basically the same as yours
