I'm new to tech and am in the process of switching my OS from Windows 10 to Linux mint. I read that you should load an OS onto a USB first and run it from there to check if the OS is compatible with your hardware before permanently installing it, is this necessary? If knowing your hardware requirements is important for switching OS, is there another way to do this? I've never installed an operating system before. My computer is a Dell XPS 8700.
