Does anyone know of any stories where a major character who has lived a life of evil decides to become good?

I'm thinking something like if Tony Soprano decided to leave his life of crime. Not just someone who made a wrong turn for a few months or years, but someone who has been this way their entire life. Their life of evil is the only thing they really know how to do, and they choose to abandon it.

It should be a story that addresses the realistic consequences of a person likely having to start over with nothing and nobody and face the fact that they've spent so much time on the wrong path, probably at an age where they had hoped to be comfortable.

It can be any medium. Books, film, anime, manga, video games, visual novels, whatever.
