So the stage I am stuck on is just finding something to use.

Fcitx is already quite confusing and I have to admit I don't really have the patience to set up a bunch of different input methods until something works when I don't really even know what I am looking for.
If somebody who actually types in chinese could tell me what works and maybe how to install it if it isn't too straightforward that would be all.
I need to be able to type so I can look things up easier and get a better understanding of tones by being forced to remember them.
