Minecraft Default Skins Resource Pack

No.1486138 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'd like to make a Minecraft resource pack that tells the game not to use the 18 new default player skins and instead only the original Alex and Steve.
I got this to work easily by creating a basic resource pack with only minecraft/assets/textures/entity/player folders with duplicates of the existing textures for the 'wide' and 'slim' category with eight Steves and eight Alexes, respectively with the other characters' names so that the game will use their appearance for all of the other characters. In the base game there are nine images in each folder for both model types, and the resource pack doesn't needlessly overwrite the original wide Steve and slim Alex, but surely there is a better way to do this, no?
I can't figure out where the game tells itself how to render players so I can tell it to use the same image all nine times when it loads in an un-skinned player, but if I could, the resource pack wouldn't even need the texture files and could use the ones in the base game.
