You will also need ffmpeg. For the best quality available:

yt-dlp.exe --no-check-certificate --no-mtime -f bestvideo*+bestaudio/best -- "%URL%"

Where %URL% is the URL to the video.

I use exclusively yt-dlp
Very fast, can download only audio, can download entire playlists
Pretty universal too, works on other video sites too.
I'll also say that odysee.com has a built in download button. Its a youtube alternative, dislikes and comments work as intended, far less censorship (you can say a lot about small hats).
If something is on odysee I watch it there. Otherwise use heavily modified youtube and yt-dlp

not op, how does yt-dlp work? do you have to download it and then go into youtube and get the video you want and download it or can you just put the youtube videos link into a search bar or something and then download?

You install it, I believe you also need to install ffmpeg
then you use it via terminal or cmd
the basic command is yt-dlp [link]
replace [link] with a video, channel or playlist and it will download it for you on the directory you're in on the command line (defaults to home)
There are assloads of extra options you can add but I can't possibly list them all

You don't even need to use a browser at all you just need the URLs, just download ytdlp+ffmpeg it and leave it at your desktop or program files, then just run "cmd" by typing windows+r and then you can have the commands either saved on a notepad or within the command line, and you use -F to see all the variants the video has and -f to download. Also not too related but I would also recommend MPV for playing videos or even images or songs.
