So I received this PS2 disc, but for some reason the back was stained and no matter what I do I can't clean it off.

What the heck caused this? Anyone have any clues on how to clean it?

Does it look like its the most outer layer of the plastic? Or is it the stained layer on the same layer as the disc art? I think I've seen this on discs that have either been cleaned with alcohol or acetone.

If you shine light on the disc do you notice any light shine through holes in the disc art?

That's a problem with CDs but not DVDs.

If there's a rental store still operating near you, you could ask them to resurface the disc with their machine.
That usually only costs a dollar.
