/temp/ is where temporary files go and get removed once the program needing them is closed or the computer is restarted.
/var/temp is where persistent and important temporary files are stored.
what do you use the OS for? what software do you have running?
check what type of files the are exactly. what processes created them? who owns them? is your /var/temp noexec so files can't be run from there?
