[5 / 1 / 1]
When I was super depressed for 2-3 years I watched a lot of movies and documentaries. I'd like to get back into movies and really see what the medium has to offer as well as it's history.
Some favorite directors/movies of mine were:
>Tarkovsky (The Sacrifice especially)
>Kubrick (all, but especially Eyes Wide Shut and Barry Lyndon)
>PTA (The Master and Licorice Pizza)
>Lynch (Lost Highway, Eraserhead)
>Mallick (only seen his more recent movies, loved Tree of Life and To the Wonder)
>Angel's Egg
>Belladonna of Sadness
>Werner Herzog documentaries (Grizzly Man, Into the Abyss, Encounters)
>Robert Eggers (all)
>Ti West (House of the Devil)
>Gospel According to St. Matthew
>other foreign films like Come and See, Viy, The Vanishing (1988), Pan's Labyrinth, Lamb
>Winter Light
>Hour of the Wolf
>Beyond the Black Rainbow
>silent movies like M, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Battleship Potemkin
>documentaries about pretty much anything, but especially controversial issues (Hearts and Minds, Deliver Us From Evil, Lake of Fire)
Pretty basic but I've got to start somewhere. I've seen a smattering of others (most of the Hitchcock classics for example) and made a chart but the file was too big.
Any recs for directors, time periods, movies are appreciated. I'd also like to read more about film as well
