Recently bought this thing called the D90 gamestick.
It's got some sort of rockchip and assumedly runs linux and has a little front end menu with the game lists etc.

The problem is you can't add games to it without editing the game list so the thumbnail and game name will show up.
The actual problem is that the game list, in each rom section, is a .dat file.
Opening the .dat in notepad results in a bunch of japanese gibberish, opening in notepad++ makes a bunch of black squares etc.

Near the .dat file is also a .bat file which opens in notepad and in plain english lists the games that it removes from the .dat list because the game files aren't actually on the sd card. So it just removes the unavailable games on start up.
I have a feeling the .dat file is something mame related but I don't have much experience with mame list compilers, so I'm not sure at all.

Could anyone figure out what program the chinese factory workers used to create the .dat? I know it's going to contain plain english titles and game image thumbnails that I can edit when it's opened the right way. I was thinking about making this thread on /g/ but it says do it here so I'll let /wsr/ have a crack at it. I can upload the dat somewhere if anyone's interested, its about 3mb.
