some games are detecting and using my gpu properly but some are completely disregarding it and destroying my cpu instead, with 0% gpu usage. i tried updating my gpu drivers but that didnt seem to help, any idea why that could be happening? i thought it was a specific game's problem but there are two games with that happening now

os: w10 pro
cpu: i5 12400f
gpu: geforce rtx 4060

Go through the settings of the offending games and make sure hardware acceleration is enabled.

a few things you could try:

1. In the nvidia control panel, go to the 3d graphics settings and check that the global setting for "preferred graphics processor" is set to the nvidia card
2. Go to BIOS settings when your computer boots. Depending on the manufacturer there's usually an option to set the default graphics device somewhere in there
3. Check your windows power settings and make sure nothing in there is trying to use a low-power or power-saving GPU
4. Make sure monitors are plugged into the GPU, not the motherboard

yesterday a friend of mine told me to check on an app to see if task manager isnt messing with me, so i got MSI Afterburner and... it seems to point out my GPU is working? is it possible for the task manager to show 0% usage even if it is doing so, only in a few specific apps?

they dont have that setting... BUT that prompted me to check windows' own hardware acceleration and it made my GPU start working, at least for the task manager. is there any downside for using this?

1. that global setting does not exist, and i think its because my processor does not have an integrated graphics card. its just the GPU
2. its ASUS. i tried searching it but i didnt manage to find it
3. nothing like that
4. they are plugged in the GPU

Make sure Ray Tracing and Virtual Shadow Maps are disabled, they don't work properly yet.
