>>1501825>Is there a type of tax like a tariff, but one that taxes the foreign company exporting the goods to your country rather than taxing the company importing the goods?Yes. There are MULTIPLE types of "tax" or "fees" that satisfy your answer where the exporter or sender must pay instead of the recipient paying.
Export Tax / Export Duty:
This type of tax is levied on goods as they leave a country, and it's paid by the foreign company exporting the goods to your country. Another name is export tariff and should not be confused with import tariff which china and europe has for american goods and which Trump wishes to reflect upon them or their DBA companies created in canada/mexico to avoid fees.
Export Tax/Duty (Protection):
This is similar to export duty but is a temporary fee imposed, usually with permission of exception clauses in trade treaty. For example, in 2023, India placed protective export duty fees on parboiled rice shipped to the USA. This was due to a poor rice harvest and the govt wanted to prevent overselling of indian rice to the USA market which had inflation boosting the selling price.
VAT (value added tax):
This consumption tax (on the value ADDED to a product at each stage of its production and distribution) forces the exporting company to pay the VAT to the government of the destination. It's a trade treaty thing and there are many exceptions.
