Anon, storytelling is actually very simple. Let me give you an example, from my experience this work the best.
>John went to buy bread
>John decided to go buy bread
>John decided to go buy bread to the store
>John went on a trip out. He wanted to buy bread at the store
>John went out, walking through the streets as he enjoyed, with a pleasant smile, the pacific lifestyle of the passerby's. While observing some stores and vendors around, he took notice of a bakery, announcing bread recently baked, which made him gulp saliva quickly forming in his mouth. So he moved towards the store to buy some.
Storytelling goes with the hand of "passing." You must avoid to skip steps/descriptions and intentions of characters. When writing, consider the characters as living being.
