Hi, /wsr/, I'm looking for advice customizing my PC.
I'm a lazy, lazy man and would like to add a remote power button to the media center in my bedroom that I built inside of an old Sony hifi separates system (It's cool af and I'd be happy to show it to anyone who's interested).
The first solution I found was to simply buy a card specifically for this purpose that plugs into a PCIe x1 slot, but unfortunately the mobo is mini-ITX and only has a single PCIe x16 slot which is occupied by a graphics card. Is it possible to plug both devices into the same slot using a splitter without affecting GPU performance? If so, I'll probably do this.
Alternatively I found picrel, a remote momentary switch that's intended to be used to unlock doors or turn lights on and off from outside your house.
The problem is it needs to be powered constantly. I'm thinking of connecting directly to the PSU 5v standby line on the big mobo plug, but I've never done anything like that and it seems like a really messy solution and I don't know if it'll even work.
Is there a better way? Any advice on that second idea?
