So we had this cartoon on a tape in 00s and it was another retelling of the story about Monkey King (not Journey to the West). It was hand drawn with some 3D thrown in. I think it was like several episodes stuffed onto the tape because it ended on a big cliff-hanger.
There was an opening and a bunch of evil demon villains who never actually got into any action in the part that we had, maybe they had a small talking part here or there.
The hero lives in a cave tribe of monke people enslaved/abused by the local human-looking gods (?) who might live in space instead of Heaven and their heavy hitters fly around on magical energy discs.
At some point the MK goes to train his kung-fu/xianxia shit with some human master and a bunch of human disciples. Then he returns and starts a rebellion with a female monkey (love interest?) thinking he is being reckless. He beats one of the gods, some girl brat, in a fight by cheating. Then gods just send a whole fleet of flying ships to bomb the monkeys. The hero and his monkeys manage to capture one and feel very good about themselves but then the rest of the fleet just shoots it to death. That's where what we had ended.
Anyone knows what I am talking about? I am pretty sure it was called "Monkey King" in my language but searching for it on the Internet proved fruitless.
