Lookong for a mid-2000s LN involving a prince whose country getd invaded by an empire lead by an evil knight princess. She falls for the MC after he does some subterfuge to ruin her war effort, the only other plot beat I remember is he gets betrayed by his family's maid and mind broken when his country loses anyway

There was a manga adaption if that helps but I remember it ended before the maid betrayal
