The geometric mean is very resilent against outliers whereas the classic arithmetic on is very susceptible to it.
High values pull the artihmetic mean extremely to them, whereas the geometric one does not particularly care. You could say the geometric one is the more "balanced" one, realtively small values at the geometric one get more power whereas in the alrithmetic one the big ones get it.
See extreme examples like 1,2,99 -> artihm = 34, geom = 5.8
If you think that big values are legit and should be weighted more then you use the arithmetic one, if you think the results should all be around the same value with outliers bieng incorrect you take the geometric one.
