Hey /wsr/ I need some help/advice.

I recently got a Latitude 5400 for free and it comes with a PCIe 256GB SSD 2230. Now upgrading to a bigger SSD would be ez, but what I want to do is get dual drives inside this laptop. There seems too be an expansion slot to the right of the original HD but I'm not sure what drive to buy that fits that expansion or if it needs a cable to connect to a second HD

Search for "Latitude 5400 HDD cable" on eBay, Amazon or AliExpress.

Any 2.5 HDD or SSD, once you have the cable.

*Any SATA 2.5 HDD or SSD.
Not that PATA really exists anymore, but there's always SAS or U.2.

Wow thank you so much man for pointing me in the right direction. I really appreciate it. So After I get this cable I can install a M.2 2280 SSD on that slot? Or does it have to be a 2.5" SATA SSD?

You could, but you would have to use an M.2 to 2.5" adapter like picrel.
The M.2 SSD would also have to be SATA with a B+M-Key rather x4 NVMe with an M-Key.
To add to the confusion, there are also x2 NVMe that have a B+M key, but those would not work either.
If you happen to have an NVMe drive on hand, and the existing 2230 drive is SATA, you could swap them out.
The M.2 slots on motherboards are usually compatible with both SATA and NVMe, whereas the one in the adapter is SATA only.
