Couldn't they simply disable file execution but open the board, so people can sharethem but as pure data and have to execute them locally on their own at own risk?

What kind of post processing are they doing on the Flash files? And why isn't it realistic to prevent them? These are never explained, not even in a passing "Adobe doesn't support them anymore" kind of way.

That's literally how it has always been. .swf files always get executed client side, not server side. You don't even have the thumbnail vulnerability that they had with PDFs since 4chan doesn't thumbnail flashes.
