Savage Critters

No.1524423 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm in the market for a somewhat particular thing:

>any format of entertainment, but ideally animated work, anime or western, or video game, genre/type unimportant
>creatures of setting are cutesy or outright adorable, probably animal-like, of the sort often done for children's media. Or at least they would be in another setting
>main plot, major events, driving force/theme, particular characters, any mix of such, is incredibly violent and brutal, contrasting hard with the designs of the inhabitants
>whether the setting itself has gone full edgedark or clashes with the particular violent part of it focused on, either or anything in between is fine
>how it's framed or what it's purpose is doesn't matter EXCEPT I don't want it to just be only what outright evil villains do
>the things happening have to have at least a sliver of a purpose or progression to it, so nothing like Happy Tree Friends where it's JUST cute critters violently dying

To provide an example, pic is Artificer from a game called Rain World, which is mainly a game about being a small critter scurrying around and surviving in the ruins of an ancient civilization and uncovering things about it. Artificer's deal is it's given background reasons to wage a constant one-critter war on certain other creatures in world with it's particular abilities. Even compared to the other martial characters Art is combat-focused and completely brutal in tone, and the endings revolve around either embracing being a kill-crazy mass murderer or trying to find a way out of an endless cycle of violence. Rain World isn't exactly a kid's cartoon world but Art crosses over into juxiposition with the rest of game.
Bone is a less egregious example, drawn in a very cartoony way and with a lot of the antics you'd think but there's a ton of stuff that happens and is visualized that would not be in that kind of content normally.
