From this angle, Jordan and Egypt captured and later occupied/annexed Israel's lands in the Independence War. "West Bank" is an occupation's renaming of Judea and Samaria. It makes no sense if the so-called Palestinians think it's the historic name of the region. Why would you, living in the east with a river on your eastern border, call yourself as the west side of that river? The answer is that Jordan gave it the name when it controlled both sides of the river and needed to name them apart. That region was also on the west side of Jordan, so it makes sense to call it "west".
Arabs who remained in Israel after the Independence War were given Israeli citizenship. After a rough security patch in the early days, they were also considered equal citizens. They can do whatever a Jewish Israeli can do, and they actually have the freedom to do more things than the Jews, like free access to Temple Mount from every entrance (Jews can go in through only one heavily secured one that prohibits the entry of religious items).
In the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Arabs were given autonomy in various regions. They fucked them up and continued being a breeding ground for terrorism. The Palestinian Authority was formed of terrorist organizations. Democratic elections were forced upon the Arabs circa 2005-2007. They elected terrorists, and those elected officials cancelled all future elections. That's what happens when you give "Palestine" any degree of freedom.
People who call for the freedom of Palestine should realize that there is a precedent.
Gaza. Given complete freedom in 2005. Its residents elected Hamas which proceeded to kill its opposition and detach from the PA, vowing to fight Israel and to kill the Jews.
