I'm really confused
what is considered a general?
a thread about action games like dmc, ninja gaiden, bayonetta, etc. is not considered a general even when the subject says *action game thread". but a thread with the subject *metroidvania thread* is considered a general. I'm really confused about this ruling, can someone explain it to me?

I don't know if this is the right board to ask this, but it seems like the only board to request information; sorry if this isn't the right board.

I don't browse /v/ so idk how jannies operate in there, but some boards like /v/ and /a/ don't allow generals. A general is just a recurring thread dedicated to a topic. Sometimes too many topics want to have a general up at all times and the catalog gets flooded with only generals and other forms of discussion die out.
/a/ jannies enforce that rule by deleting any thread that has "general" in the OP, pretty sure /v/ does that too. In /a/ however, people just circumvent that by not putting "general" in the OP, even though in practice it is.

Exactly what happened on /v/ with the metroidvania and action threads that have you believing they're recieving different treatment?

To add, everyone knows threads on /a/ like the buyfag thread or the isekai thread are just generals without general in the name, and often refer to them as generals in the replies. But jannies don't care as long as the OP doesn't call itself a general. Does it make sense? No but it's how it works over there.

there are constant threads that could easily be classified as generals. the action threads are usually just that. they say *character action thread". but I made a metroidvania thread and it got deleted and I received a warning saying not to post generals even though I never called it one, nor was that my intention. additionally, I have made other threads like *beat em up thread* and *falcom thread* but it's never been an issue. I've also seen countless other genres getting a dedicated thread without issue. so that's why I'm really confused.

Plenty of random shit gets deleted for no good reason because jannies have quotas so sometimes they just delete posts to fulfil their quota for the day
