I want more anime genre/type rabbitholes to get into, I am interested in the Mecha and Mahou shoujo rabbitholes, give me more rabbitholes like this, sorry for this vague thread

Oh, i was not asking for anime recommendatins exactly, i already have charts related to mecha anime so i know what to watch, i was looking for more genre rabbitholes to get into, if you know what i mean

I get you and your weird vague thread.
One of my favorite anime rabbit holes is anime based on classic novels. There is a shocking amount out there that nobody really talks about and it is really interesting seeing well known stories through a Japanese lens.
The 70's Treasure Island anime and Gankutsuo: The Count of Monte Cristo are a couple of my favorite examples.

my favorite unofficial anime genre is /abe/ referring to yoshitoshi abe, which includes his ouvre but also shows that have a similar vibe.

there used to be a board on iichan.hk called /abe/ dedicated to this genre, which nowadays is accessible at https://ii.yakuji.moe/abe/
