plug your controller via USB into a computer running Windows
the device name of a real PS3 controller in control panel-->devices and printers should read as "PLAYSTATION(R) 3 Controller," if it says anything else it's fake

Post a pic of the front, counterfeits often have "P3" on the main button instead of the playstation logo
Also check if it has motion controls or not, fakes often don't have those

You can usually tell by the Sony logo on the front - the logo on counterfeits usually looks faded. Also if you bought it on ebay or mercari where they advertised it as new/sealed for like $30-50 its definitely fake
