Hi, I have a WD My passport that fell and broke like 10 years ago. I found it again after cleaning my room and I figure that I should try to get the data inside.
It makes 9 beep then 3 then 3 again and i'm thinking of open it for see if the head got stuck (When it fell it wasn't running so I don't think that's the problem).

Is a dust free room mandatory?
If the head is not the problem what could it be?

It's required if then plan on reading it using its own hardware in normal operation.
A portable one like this probably has 5400 rpm, that means in operation it rotatates at an insane speed, creating a microscopicly thin film of air the head is gliding on. A dust particle is like a rock at those dimensions if it crashes into it at 90 km/h.
This the usually leads to a chain reaction of fine particles from the surface speeding around causing abrasion, which results in even more particles and so on.

There are some DIY solutions to get a dust free enviroment? Even a small one for my hands and the HDD would be enough

You can make a not dust FREE but dust reduced environment out of some wooden frames, plastic foil, HEPA filters and two vacuum cleaners. If you don't really care about the drive sooner or later getting detroyed that might be worth a shot for the time it takes to scan and copy data.
