Recently I got in contact with a childhood friend, the usual talk, like 10 years
with no communication.
But, I was surprised the by his old man , since I remember he was with some branch of the scouts and he is still on that.
I don't see what's the appeal of it(thought it can have).
At the moment he was wearing a uniform and the usual hat.
All they seems to do is camping and hiking to some extent.
Supposedly with talks about leadership and the cookies.
But it surprises me, because the guy is over 60 and works in some local office, and he takes like a religion.
Later I asked him how did entered to the group, and he told me it was from one of the brothers of my friend joined some group and the day of the meeting they needed volunteers (isn't supposed you need to apply for it and take a course prior!?), and asked why he does this, answering he feels good to keep along.
He seems to be nice and receives a payment for the work.
I mean no disrespect for the scouts, simply I don't get why they got so much fuzz; once I was told this was like some sort of propaganda, like >picrel.jpg, to enlist people.
To put in perspective I don't get why you would dedicate so much time and effort especially in late years
of the life. Is this under or overrated?
Thanks anon.
