I apologize in advance that this isn't much to go on, but she was young when she watched it and has a rough memory from back then.
Anyway, she remembers watching a horror movie somewhere circa 2002-2006. It shouldn't be any later than that. She was freaked out by it back then and recently remembered bits of one particular scene. She's now become obsessed with finding it and it want to help her.
A mother and her child (unable to remember thr gender of the child) are running through some water in an underground area (possibly a sewer) trying to escape from some creature in the water. She doesn't remember the creature itself, but recalls that it spits out a body to taunt them before they're able to climb a ladder to get away. That's all I've got to go on. No detail on the woman, child, or creature. She semes to think this was a movie rental her mom picked up. I've deep dived through wiki pages going all the way back to the 80's looking for this movie and can't find it.
