I got an old Macbook Pro from 2011 and believe it or not, it still holds up today so I can't throw it away.
I installed Pop OS on it, but I have two problems:
>it doesnt recognize the AMD HD 6770 gpu
>dvd drive seems to be completely dead, doesnt do anything

Pic rel, I dont know why AMD gpu isnt recognized by the OS.

There's probably no way to get drivers for AMD HD 6770M on any modern Linux distribution.

The official AMD driver won't support any modern Kernel or Xorg windowing system.
This is the case with all old drivers. Unfortunately this is where Windows 10 is so much better. You can get legacy drivers for Windows, but not for Linux.
It's a real drawback and I hope someone finds a way around it.

It fucking sucks to use integrated graphics with older laptops just because of le Linux

I'm OP, I tried running the .run file I downloaded from the site through terminal but I got an error saying my Xorg version is too new.
People say rolling back packages for this would be retarded.

Found this arch wiki page and it does mention your GPU works with xf86-video-ati. seems like there is a ppa called oibaf/graphics-drivers for ubuntu, but people are saying it's breaks shit online, so maybe just install arch instead.

Also it probably doesn't work with wayland. if you are running the new cosmic desktop it's wayland-only.

That's too bad because I use Wayland. I get window flickering with Xorg.
Do you think it's even worth it to get the GPU drivers or just go with integrated graphics?
