I'm basically ignorant about all of it, but if I can get results with just Googling "change imei number," and get results, you can probably figure it out.

IMEI is hardware bound. If you truly want to change a phone's IMEI, you'll need to swap the motherboards with a "clean" phone. That's why people still buy really fucked up unrepairable phones on ebay, in hopes of it still having a working motherboard to swap with a stolen phone so it becomes "clean".
