I tried https://www.amazon.com/external-Adapter-Windows-Microphone-SD-CM-UAUD/dp/B001MSS6CS and it sounded fucking AWFUL. I was amazed how it got so many good reviews. I think they all output around the same sound quality.

Jesus christ, either repair or replace the connector, or if you're not up to that, slap one of these in a spare drive bay.

The front panel audio connector has been standardised for nearly a decade; literally all you do is plug in one cable.

If you look on ebay for "<your PC> front panel", you'll find the exact replacement part.

Mine is on the top of the pc. Can I still just get a front panel thing and connect it to the mobo and it'll work? I built my pc a few years ago btw.

It'll work anyway, as front panel audio headers are a standard, but if you can, you'd be better repairing or replacing the audio connector board that came with your case.

Green's for headphones and PC speakers.

Blue's for connecting to other audio equipment.

In order to do surround sound off of just the mobo's jacks, software that came with the motherboard might enable you to switch the green-blue-pink ports to be other types of outputs, than their defaults.
