sativa usually can cause panic attacks so an indica would be better

smoking in situations where you're comfortable

also just smoking a smaller amount at a time might help

Vaping instead of smoking it helps. You get less of the toxic byproducts from the plant material burning. It's a much cleaner, more lucid high with no panic attacks as an added bonus.

Quite a bit less smell too. Obviously not completely scentless, but if you've working temperature control then most of the aromatic chemicals don't vaporize much.
With dry herb vaping at least. Not sure about PG/VG extracts.
