I think the reason Garden of Words worked for me though was because the characters, setting, tone, and animation were just a bit different in a much better way. The others I watched excelled in some of those, but usually failed on the characters for me.
Also, I've only ever heard praise for Garden of Words, so that's interesting.
Like I said though, it's just me being a dick. There are many people that love his films, so it's definitely worth watching at least some of them, especially with Kimi no Na wa being the biggest fucking anime in the past decade. I suggest waiting a few months that to come out on Bluray so you can watch it in glorious 1080p.
