Can anyone recommend a "must watch" list for someone who is practically brand new to anime? Preferably sci-fi/action/adventure type genres (no hentai please)

Would also be appreciated if some animes had waifu material

Giant Robo Movies (there are 7)
Mobile Suit Gundam (action, core gundam)
Steins;Gate (Sci-fi, waifu bait)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (new series starts where the manga starts)
Fist of the North Star (first season only)
Gurren Lagann (sci fi, I didn't really like it but it's got the memes)

If your girlfriend is a nerd too, a lewd one that might be fun for her is Haganai. It's got some nudity and dirty jokes but the characters are a bunch of geeks and it's full of video game references. I don't usually watch shows that are nothing but lewd with no point to them, so I can vouch for this one being pretty fun if you ever just want a goofy and somewhat lewd comedy. It's pretty accessible to newcomers and it's not overly lewd to the point of being uncomfortable.
