For some reason microsoft windows stops responding every week or 2. I have to restart my computer and everything goes back to normal. Any idea how to stop this from happening?

then copy/upload all that you want to save somewhere and make a booteable windows usb.
for win7 you can use rufus to make it and for win8.1 and 10 there is a program for it.
you can also go the leet way and install any linux distro
