Optical drive via SATA->USB help

No.262213 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
My friend gave me a Lite-On iHAS422-08 optical drive since they were throwing out the PC it was originally in. My computer has no disk drive and no space to put one in (Alienware Alpha, inb4 fucc alienware lol thats ur problem). Therefore, I'm trying to use a USB 2.0 -> 2.5in SATA cable, which I had from transferring hard drives a while back, to run it. Windows recognizes the drive and says its in drive E, but the drive tray won't come out when the button is pressed and, when forcing a disk in through the paperclip opening method, doesn't spin up. I suspect it has something to do with pic related's 6 pin connector, but maybe the drive is just a dud?

TLDR: What is this 6 pin connector and is it needed for the drive to function? If so, how do I power it via USB or whatever?
