I'm trying to remember something I saw once. I feel fairly confident it was a manga, but it could have been an anime.

Anyway, it had this scene near the start where the protagonist was leaving the house and saying bye to their father, but it was framed cleverly so you didn't realize until a few panels later that the father is dead and that it's one of those pictures Japanese people keep in their house. The reason why I think this is a manga is because I can't imagine that visual trick working with something that has motion. Does this ring any bells?
