You've probably seen this thing already. It's mostly being circulated in the phone-friendly vertical format, but I've figured I could adapt it for /wsr/ purposes.

This is also my opportunity to ask here: What could be improved here? Keep in mind this is supposed to be a tool for /v/ type of people who are pretty new to anime and haven't developed a taste yet. Not too elitist, and yet scrapping some popular series that simply aren't worth it in the end.

Make a Josei line with NC, Honey and. Lover, Princess Jellyfish, Chihayafuru, Paradise Kiss, and Usagi Drop because you have one for seinen. I don't know. I feel like Fruits Basket deserves a spot on the list. Maybe even Itazura Na Kiss since they are like the stables of romance shoujo.

I did a slapdash job and went through the chart noting some of the more egregious problems.
I haven't seen everything and obviously I won't touch those I haven't.
Some of the things left untouched, whether I've seen it or not, could probably still be replaced with something (e.g. I haven't seen Saiki Kusuo or Tanaka-kun but I really can't picture either being a better choice over leaving out something like School Rumble or Azumanga Daioh when talking about high-school comedies.)
But then again what do I know?
This obviously isn't entirely objective either so feel free to call me out on my shit taste for not liking Toradora or Steins;Gate or Ergo Proxy.

You can chalk not wanting Haikyuu, KnB, Free, YP out because they are shows girls would enjoy. Something like K-On while being just as mediocre as Free stays because of it's impact on anime. They hate to say Haikyuu is good. Don't know about YP but Kuroko is a meme sports series.
Toradora is good but not the best. Belongs there.
Ecchi anime stays as it always popular with younger guys. Most battle harem are trash but if you are going yo put any it should be DxD and HotD.
NGNL is bad but enjoyable. Charts need series like this.

Not that guy, but I think it's just that TTGL is essentially mecha for people who don't like mecha, so it's not a very accurate example of the genre. Granted it's extremely popular with normies, but using it as an example of the entire genre is VERY misleading because going from TTGL to a more typical mecha show is going to give them genre whiplash.

Fine I guess, but stuff like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Ghibli probably don't need to be on a chart since they are very famous in their own right even in the west.

I'm not gonna debate over these, but I'd listen to some of the arguments that have been said about TTGL and S;G if I were you. But I will agree with what that other anon said about the "fanservice" genre. I actually like fanservice shows, I've seen and enjoyed a lot of them, but that shit is super niche and there's basically no way a /v/-browsing normalfag is going to go for shows like that.

I don't know what you're trying to do here, but if I had to guess it's trying to hype up the shows in this category as being on "another level" or whatever, but the problem is it's a total hodgepodge of quality. You have stuff like Eva that is mandatory viewing regardless of whether you think it's good or not along side instantly forgettable flops like Flip Flappers (for the record I watched that show start to finish, and while cute at times I have no idea why people are pretending it's amazing). The truth is you could sort these into their proper genres, they don't have to sorted out and hyped up like this. If you want to strongly recommend them then put a star or something by their entry to show that it's a special rec.

HxH should not be on any list of noobie recs, you need to watch or read a lot of battle shounen to appreciate what Togashi is doing in that series. It's wasted on 99% of normalfags you recommend it to. I've seen firsthand how the /v/ crowd reacts to HxH, it's not pretty. Dragonball is a pretty easy replacement. DBZ needs no recommendations, but Dragonball was never quite as popular over here and a lot of the /v/ crowd have never watched it.

Parasyte out from this category. Yes it's got action and gore, but it's not flashy or impactful like the other titles. A lot of the really memorable parts from Parasyte are the very sad, emotional ones, not the fight scenes. I don't really feel the point of making a seinen category since it's less of a sub-genre than battle shounens, which tend to follow a predictable formula, but if you insist on having it then I'd recommend turning it into a "babby's first seinen" category (and it's a shame Vinland Saga has no anime or it'd go great here). So with that in mind, replace Parasyte with Berserk if you really want to keep the seinen sub-category. Fate/Zero isn't really babby's first seinen, but it's babby's first Fate/ title so it works I guess.

In Berserk's place in "dark fantasy" put Blood C, move it all the way to the right side. And replace Claymore with Tokyo Ghoul (far more popular with the normalfag crowd already). Rename the sub-category "gore & suffering".

>Funky Road Trip Adventure Epic
For the love of god pick a better name for this that isn't word salad. I feel like Moribito is tragically mis-shelved here. It's main draw is fight choreography and high fantasy world building, people looking for a fun roadtrip are going to wonder why the fuck this was fed to them. But this whole sub-category doesn't seem very cohesive. You could restructure everything in this broad adventure category, create two main sub-categories: episodic adventures and serial story adventures, and then a third for ones that kinda do both. Also I think we have enough examples now to just do a full on Isekai sub-category in this genre. Log Horizon, SAO, Grimgar, Re:Zero, DanMachi etc. They're undeniably popular especially with the /v/idya crowd.

Noragami don't feel like it fits with the rest of the urban fantasy you have lined up. It's dyed in the wool urban fantasy, but it's not at all setting-focused like the subtitle says. Continued next post.

I can't think of anything in particular to replace Noragami for urban fantasy that would be entry level though. But then again I think this sub-category has gotten off topic if the theme is about superpowers etc. Might just want to think really hard about what kind of category this is supposed to be. Cause any recommendations I can think of to replace stuff would just shift it into being a full blown urban/low fantasy category with some soft sci-fi thrown in. A real fantasy category would be a better fit for mahou shoujo shows too, though I can see why you'd put them in a weird "superpower" pseudo-genre.

Ashita no Joe belongs in this category somewhere. Pick your least favorite show and switch it out.

>Comedy
GTO is a school comedy. Servant x Service is a great workplace comedy that I've had a lot of success selling to newbies. Amagi Brilliant Park is just.. so mediocre. Feels like filler. Golden Boy could replace it, but it also works as a road trip anime now that I think about it.

For high school comedy ditch Saiki Kusuo and Tanaka-kun (this is more of a SoL), put in Cromartie High and GTO, or alternatively Azumanga Daioh. Depends on how many schoolgirl comedies you want. Cause looking at the SoL section you don't have any sub--category for school SoL (which admittedly is not a very popular sub-genre with the /v/ crowd) so if anywhere was going to have Azumanga it would probably be this one.

As for parody, technically all those except Gintama are satire, not parody. If you want to do a parody section then it'd be Gintama, Binbougami, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, and Seto no Hanayome. If you want to do pure satire then ditch Gintama and put in something like Sabagebu, though it's only satire in the vaguest sense.

>Slice of Life
Love Live is an idol show and shouldn't be lumped in with ordinary CGDCT. GochiUsa, Yuru Yuri, and Yuyushiki are all viable replacements. Yuru Yuri would be my pick personally.

Ditch Ergo Proxy, add GitS:SAC.

Space Dandy is more of an episodic comedy show, it sticks out like a sore thumb alongside the rest of that sub-category, something like Harlock would go along with it more.

Definitely not my wheelhouse, but Eureka Seven does NOT belong in the same sub-category as GGG, Gunbuster, and FMP. At least put Diebuster there instead, and I know that's gonna make some /m/oron buttflustered but it goes with Gunbuster and fits that company a lot better than E7.

For the mystery section, Gankutsuou doesn't really fit. Something like Boku Dake ga Inai Machi has more of the tone and style people would expect, it's pretty much just a simple whodunnit with a sci-fi bent. Plus it went over pretty well with my normalfag friends so I think it's a safe bet.

And for horror, I don't know if Another works. It's one of those anime that is very hard to take seriously. Then again I am of the opinion that horror is not a genre that anime really does well in general and you've already listed the stuff I'd pick. I feel like Paranoia Agent should be in this category though, somewhere. 91 Days is a show that aired recently that I think could work in this section too.

>Drama
This is a genre I don't have a lot of experience in, I've watched only about half the shows listed here. Though that last sub-category's name is needlessly pretentious. I will say that a decent drama I don't see listed here is Kokoro Connect, but since I don't know enough about the rest of the shows I can't say what I'd take out for it.

I wouldn't recommend Nisekoi to my worst enemy. It's like the ur-example of bad harem comedies. Put something actually tolerable on there instead, like School Rumble. Oremonogatari is a pretty decent one that aired recently too.

>Fanservice
I already stated my thoughts on this "genre" before but I'll reiterate: I don't think this will go over well with the normalfag demographic you're targeting. Ditch it.

If we're going to be replacing full-length TV series with OVAs, why not go with something that's actually stupid fun instead of just stupid like Dangaioh or Iczer-1? They're both from the same era as Gunbuster and would be less of a redundant addition when Diebuster could just be a footnote under Gunbuster.

Bingo, it's not a matter of quality here. This block is meant for shows defined by a mix of avant-garde art style, usage of symbolism, and blurring the genre boundaries, "deconstruction" meme included. I've had enough of people complaining about placement of Haruhi and Shirobako in comedy/SoL.

Azumanga is definitely more of a comedy than archetypal cute girls.
At least put in School Rumble. Saiki Kusuo is absolutely nothing special.

Sports needs more classics and established tites besides Slam Dunk and Joe. I'll give you Yuri but Yowamushi Pedal, Kuroko and Free really don't belong in there when you could throw in Aim for the Ace and Eyeshield for instance.

SAC is way better choice than Ergo Proxy. Psycho Pass 1st season was okay I guess.

Definitely change Space Dandy out from space. Space Brothers is a way better choice for representing that alongside Planetes, another grounded hard sci-fi title. This way you have 2 hard ones and 2 space operas.

If you want this category to be "magical girls are totes for grown ass men too" just include Sailor Moon and hell, maybe even Precure. Both are known to be enjoyed by adults.
If you're making an absolute normie introduction chart to anime don't include magical girls in the first place if you want people to look at anime in general and not recoil from anything. Either go all out or don't go at all.

Regardless, you're not doing anyone any favors by recommending them Flip Flappers. And Shirobako is a neat show but it really does not belong in that category. Haruhi is also debatable.

Think about after the initial grab, Parasyte has several episodes with nothing but talking and a lot of its high points are the result of emotional drama. Yes its gory at times, but somebody picking it up for gore is going to be disappointed and going to rate the show probably 6/10 at best when they're done. Somebody picking it up as more a balanced thriller would get more out of it definitely.

Slayers works, don't know why I didn't think of it for this category. I was trying to think of some place to put it but you don't have a proper fantasy section.

Fair enough, but there's enough isekai now you don't have to.

I'm not sure either of those are really entry level, but Bungo Stray Dogs is pretty shit so if it's a toss up between those then Yozakura all the way. But it seems like you've settled on there being an urban fantasy category, it just doesn't feel like it fits with the rest of the superpower category.

At some point you have to realize that requiring things to fit in arbitrary boxes doesn't improve the suggestion of anime. I wouldn't dare suggesting a detective anime since it's such a tired genre you can literally experience in any other medium better.
