Clarification on field splitting diagram and coloration

No.291915 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey /wsr/,

So I am being asked to compare the likelihood of 4 different tetrahedral metal complexes to be colorless based on their field splitting diagrams. 3 of them have a d-count of 9, so I know that they are at least pale colored if not colorless, however the 4th metal has a d-count of 10.

Intuitively I want to say that this complex must be colorless then, because where is an electron to go (ignoring the ligands), but we have never gone over a situation like this in the class so I am no 100% confident. If anyone here could confirm or deny my guess I would appreciate it.
