Gundam, any. Although some are better than others. Try 00 as a good entry level Gundam

Macross, although either watch the original or Macross Frontier which is the original 2.0

Sailor Moon, it reached its peak in the 3rd season so if you're crunched for time just watch the 3rd season.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Easily the best written anime of all time

Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki. Sometimes called Tenchi Muyo the OVA.

Heartcatch Pretty Cure. There are currently 14 seasons of Precure, Heartcatch is its high point.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. Watch the first season in BROADCAST ORDER or don't watch it at all. You can find the appropriate order to watch it on many sites, even Wikipedia if you're lazy. You can watch the second season in chronological order, all episodes of Endless Eight, I double dog dare you and the movie.

Spirited Away. Not Miyazaki's best but it's more easily accessible than his earlier films. Kiki's Delivery Service is my personal favorite

there's a risk whenever you run an .exe or .msi or .scr from a shady site on the internet (or .pdf because adobe is terrible and their product is full of shitloads of security holes), but video files like .mkv (which most anime uses) are safe

as for torrenting so your ISP doesn't yell at you? well depending on where you are they might just not give a fuck, but if your internet service provider is hellbent on stopping you from torrenting you can always pay 5-10 bux per month for a seedbox or a vpn

Probably MPC-HC. You can use that or MPV, whichever you want. MPC-HC though will work best if you install some additional plugins for it. I use MPC-HC personally, but it's just because that's what I've been using for years and I'm used to it and see no reason to change. If you just want something that will work right out of the box no tweaking necessary than go with MPV.

Also, VLC will work, but it's kinda clunky and definitely requires some fine tuning to get rid of the wrinkles for anime playback (mainly color adjustments). It's a lot more stable than it used to be though. I still only recommend using VLC for network streaming, which is what it was originally designed for in the first place.

There's not really any special rules to using torrents safely that aren't just an extension of safe internet browsing habits in general. I.e. stick to trusted sites, don't click anything you're not sure about, don't download executable files from unverified sources etc. Short of that you just have to familiarize yourself with anime video files so you can gauge whether something is fake just by looking at its file type and size. This is also useful for eyeballing the general quality of a release too, not just safety. Though if you stick to the sites recommended to you by that image you shouldn't ever encounter malicious torrents because they are pretty regularly moderated trackers that actively purge anything remotely suspicious. Nyaa in particular has a color coding system for trusted users (their torrents are colored green), whose torrents you can be sure are safe and of a respectable and consistent quality. Uncolored torrents are also safe (since as I mentioned anything suspicious gets immediately pruned), but their quality is less assured.

KCP is pretty outdated. It actually downgrades some of the default components in MPC-HC at this point, like LAV filters for one. In fact I don't know why KCP even installs LAV filters when those have come bundled with vanilla MPC-HC for years now. In fact I just checked, the latest release of KCP installs LAV v.0.65 and the latest stable build of MPC-HC just updated to v0.69, they're 4 releases behind now.

It's not a drastic difference, but it's nice to have. There's a 64bit XySubFilter that I'm using with it too, but I might as well not be using it because I set it to render to original video size (subtitles won't show up in screenshots on the default setting, and I take a lot of screenshots with subtitles).

Look down in the bottom right and look for the icon I have circled here. Is yours green or is it yellow? If it's yellow you have connection/port forwarding problems. If it's green it's something else.

Disagree with this. If you're going to watch Sailor Moon (which you should consider) you should start from the beginning. It's all good, even at its lowest point, which I consider to be R. Besides, Sailor Stars is the best season.
